Illinois Route 54 is a remnant of US Route 54, and it runs southwest-northeast in central and east-central Illinois. It runs northeasterly from Springfield, connecting to many rural communities before ending at Onarga near Interstate 57.
Illinois 54 then, near the town of Bellflower, crosses US Route 136 as it continues moving northeastward:
