Illinois Route 64 runs east-west spanning across all of northern Illinois, from a crossing out of Iowa to the city of Chicago's lakeshore. It continues eastward from Iowa's State Route 64, joining US Route 52 for a long while, then it heads almost due east through Sycamore, many Chicago suburbs, and the north side of Chicago. It is known as North Avenue in the Chicagoland area.
Illinois 64's western is concurrent with US Route 52, and it's a bridge crossing the Mississippi River from Sabula, Iowa, into Savanna, Illinois:
The bridge deposits directly into a T-intersection with Illinois 84, and US Route 52 and Illinois 64 both turn southerly onto that route:
Still in Savanna, Illinois 64 and US Route 52 split from Illinois 84 to really head eastward into Illinois:
At Mount Carroll, Illinois 64 and US Route 52 continue their journey together through an intersection with Illinois 78:
