Ohio State Route 423 is an alternate north-south alignment to US Route 23 in and around Marion, Ohio. The southern end is at US Route 23 in Waldo, at a point that is common to the southern end of Ohio Route 98 and the eastern end of Ohio Route 47. From there, Ohio Route 423 runs north-northwest into Marion, where it joins Ohio Route 4 northward. As it emerges out of the north side of Marion, Ohio Route 423 splits from Ohio Route 4 to return to its north-northwesterly course. This course doesn't last much longer, though, as Ohio Route 423 ends 5 miles later. It returns to US Route 23 via short turn east onto Ohio Route 231. The northern terminus is where Ohio Route 231 meets its interchange with US Route 23's expressway. Ohio Route 423 is entirely within Marion County, though it nearly spans the county's entire north-south breadth (height?).
My photo of Ohio Route 423 comes from the point where it joins Ohio Route 231 east to the US Route 23 freeway, very near its northern end. The photo looks west at a guide marker, communicating to those who just left the interchange between Ohio Route 231 and US Route 23. Ohio Route 423's continuation comes with a turn to the left, as explained by the signage. This photo was taken in October 2016, when I was driving along the US Route 23 corridor from Portsmouth to Toledo (before turning west toward home).
