Ohio State Route 149 is a route mainly in Belmont County that lives two separate lives. The first "life" of Ohio Route 149 comprises an east-west route between Bellaire and Belmont. Ohio Route 147 also connects Bellaire and Belmont, but Ohio Route 147 stays south of Ohio Route 149. The eastern beginning of Ohio Route 149 is at Ohio Route 147 in Bellaire. As Ohio Route 149's westward course enters the inland town of Belmont, it converges with Ohio Route 147, and the two routes share pavement for a few blocks. Then, Ohio Route 149 seems to have an identity crisis, wanting northing to do with Ohio Route 147's westward course. Instead, Ohio Route 149 makes a drastic change, turning northerly past Morristown, and even curling northeasterly once it reaches the village of Flushing. At Flushing, Ohio Route 149 joins Ohio Route 331 back toward the east, until it reaches its final short northeasterly segment. That final segment ends at Ohio Route 9 at New Athens.
My photo of Ohio State Route 149 shows the first westbound trailblazer seen by those joining the eastern beginning of the highway, in Bellaire. While the true eastern end of Ohio Route 149 is at the diamond interchange with the Ohio Route 7 expressway, the trailblazer here is posted on the western leg of the intersection with the north-south surface arterial just to the west of Ohio Route 7. This photo was taken during the tour around the southeastern quarter of Ohio in March 2021.
