^US Route 62 jogs along US Route 52 in Aberdeen, June 2024.
US Route 62 runs northeast-southwest across the middle of the state of Ohio, passing through Columbus. It prefers areas south of Interstate 71 and US Route 42. If Ohio was a clock, with the top of the clock pointed north, US Route 62 would pass from 7 o'clock to 2 o'clock. This is contrasted with Interstate 71 and US Route 42, which pass from 8 o'clock to 1 o'clock. Starting in the southwest part of Ohio, US Route 62 crosses the Ohio River out of Kentucky at Aberdeen, Ohio, on a bridge that it shares with US Route 68. US Routes 62 and 68 both join US Route 52 west for a brief spell until Ripley, where all three routes go their separate ways. US Route 52 continues west, and US Route 68 heads north-northwesterly; however, US Route 62 continues going north-northeasterly toward Columbus. On its way to Columbus, US Route 62 serves Hillsboro and Washington Court House, where it picks up the Ohio Route 3 designation (that US Route 22 dumped on it). US Route 62 and Ohio Route 3 then pass through Columbus, where US Route 62 turns more toward the east as Ohio Route 3 turns away to proceed more northerly. The northerly component to US Route 62 comes back very soon, and US Route 62 continues northeasterly through Gahanna, New Albany, Utica, Danville, and Millersburg. Next, US Route 62 enters the Canton area, joining US Route 30 eastward on its freeway before turning north onto the Interstate 77 freeway. Yet another freeway carries US Route 62 eastward after that, but this freeway to Alliance isn't shared with any other routes. At Alliance, US Route 62 is downgraded to a surface route heading due east to Salem. It is here that US Route 62 starts zigzagging constantly, across Salem, Canfield, Youngstown, and Hubbard. Beyond Hubbard, US Route 62 crosses the Pennsylvania state line, into Sharon, Pennsylvania.
My photo of US Route 62 signage in Ohio comes from the small town of Berlin, east of Millersburg, where Ohio Route 39 joins US Route 62. This photo of a junction marker looks west at the eastern end of a concurrency shared between Ohio Route 39 and US Route 62. I snapped this photo in October 2022, during my exhaustive tour around northeastern Ohio. Back to the Ohio US Highways page. Back to the Ohio main page. Back to the home page.
