US Route 222 is one of four branches, or "child routes" of US Route 22, and it runs primarily in Pennsylvania. It begins in Allentown, running southwest through Reading to Lancaster, where it turns southerly to end at US Route 1 in northeastern Maryland. The southern end only protrudes into Maryland by a few miles, to a point along US Route 1 north of Havre de Grace.
My photo of US Route 222 comes from the northwestern edge of Reading, Pennsylvania. As travelers move southeast into the Reading area along Pennsylvania Highway 183, they will notice this junction marker for the US Route 222 freeway bypass. This photo was taken in April 2024, during my trip across Pennsylvania, the Delmarva, and the Carolinas.
