US Route 266 runs east-west in east-central Oklahoma, as one of the shortest US highways in existence today. It runs from Henryetta to Checotah to Warner, along the same corridor served by Interstate 40. That's why US Route 266 is more of a secondary surface highway serving these towns, and it isn't the first US highway to serve this kind of secondary role to an Interstate. The west end, in Henryetta, is at a portion of US Route 75 concurrent with US Route 62. The east end of US Route 266 is at US Route 64 in Warner.
My photo of US Route 266 signage comes from Grayson, Oklahoma, just east of Henryetta. This signage faces north at southbound travelers reaching the end of Oklahoma Highway 52. I had a hard time finding a US Route 266 shield in good condition around Henryetta, so I drifted off to the east a bit to find this sign. This picture was taking during the Southwest trip of October 2024, wherein I drove across New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma.
